GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- Elizabeth "Liddy" Olszewski and Donna "Gussie" Farris will soon be able to check off an item from their bucket lists -- they left Monday to attend their first Democratic National Convention.

Olszewski, the chair of the Ottawa County Democratic Party, told WZZM 13, "It has been a dream of mine for 40 years. I've been watching conventions since I was in college, and it truly has - it's right there on the top of my bucket list."

Farris, of Grand Rapids, said she is equally enthused.

"It's just an all exciting atmosphere - everybody's just excited for the election and they're excited for being together - excited for things to happen," said Farris.

The pair departed Gerald R. Ford International Airport Monday at noon. They'll arrive in Charlotte four hours later, to begin a whirlwind week of meals, meetings and speeches - not to mention parties.

"I've done so much work, and so now to actually go and be right in the heart of it is like wow like wow!" Farris said.
