(Detroit Free Press) - Gov. Rick Snyder does a cameo appearance - sort of - in the controversial video released this week of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney's unflattering remarks about people who'll vote for President Barack Obama.
Snyder wasn't at the May 17 fundraiser in Florida, but after Romney's remarks to people attending the $50,000 per plate event, he settled in for small talk, dinner and some wine. That's when the camera's audio pick up a discussion about Snyder.
"He's a strange guy ... He calls himself one tough nerd. IT guy ... He never wears a tie, like you," a voice thought to be Romney's says.
Background noise on the video, surreptitiously recorded by someone attending the fundraiser and provided to the magazine Mother Jones, makes it tough to discern all the words, but Snyder spokeswoman Geralyn Lasher dismissed the exchange as harmless.
"It sounds like Gov. Romney was just having some lighthearted conversation," she said.
And there's nothing too revealing about the conversation, Lasher said, because her boss rarely wears a tie, is an IT guy and coined the term "one tough nerd."
Snyder is mentioned shortly after the 13-minute mark in the video below:
