GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) The second Fork Fest is Thursday, showing off local food and menu items.

Local First believes if consumers know how much their neighbors depend on them and how great the product is, the consumers will want to seek those businesses out in the future.  The belief is Fork Fest is creating an atmosphere that will allow local business to flourish and strengthen the local economy.

There will be free food samples at Fork Fest and a cash bar with wine, beer and cider. Kids under 10 get in free.

The event will also be an opportunity to celebrate the success of the 10x10 pledge. Last month, Local First challenged people in the community to shift $10 from their food budget and use it to buy local products for 10 weeks. The goal was to get 1,000 people to do it. Seth Galligan says they have surpassed that amount which translates to more than $100,000 infused into the local economy.

Fork Fest is from 5:00pm - 9:00pm at Romence Gardens and Greenhouse at 265 Lakeside Drive in Grand Rapids.  Click on the link for details.
