Saugatuck, Mich. (WZZM) - A group of planners and outdoor enthusiasts will work together to formalize the development of new trails along Lake Michigan.
The Lake Michigan Trail Conference will begin November 8th in Saugatuck and last two days. Kayakers and cyclists will work with regional planners on a 'multi-modal' kayak, biking, hiking and motor trail around the entire shoreline of Lake Michigan.
"The objective of this conference will be to establish a long distance recreational trail, similar in scope to the Appalachian Trail," said Dr. Dave Lemberg with Western Michigan University in a news release. "Our goal is to work with conference participants from the four states to connect the efforts in each state and create a unified vision for this world class multi-modal trail."
Registration for the conference is free, but limited to 150 people. For more information, click here to visit the conference registration website. You can also click here to visit the Lake Michigan Water Trail Association website.
