WIXOM, Mich. (WZZM/AP) -- The Michigan State Police and representatives of other law enforcement agencies are telling people not to believe all the rumors they hear about the recent shootings along Interstate 96 between Lansing and Detroit.

One of the first rumors investigators hope to dispell is that all the shootings have been along I-96.  In fact, they say only three of the 24 reported incidents have happened on the interstate.

Two dozen shootings have been reported this month on and around I-96 from Oakland to Ingham counties and up M-52 into Shiawassee County.  Ten incidents have been in Wixom.

The suspect is believed to be shooting at vehicles he passes from the opposite direction

Troopers say they are now pulling over cars involved in what they call "suspicious activities" -- vehicles parked along roadsides, coming out of wood lines on the side of freeways around Interstate 96 or doing anything else seemingly out of the norm are being stopped.

There is a $102,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the gunman responsible for the shootings.  Anyone with information on the crimes is asked to call 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
