ALLEGAN COUNTY, Mich. (WZZM) -- A private investigator is trying to locate the last images a father has of his son. Joe Courtney's Allegan County home was burglarized a week ago and a thief stole his camera.
That camera had the few images Courtney had left of his 22-year-old son Gregory, who was killed in a car crash after returning home from a deployment in Afghanistan.
Courtney talks about losing his son's pictures saying, "It took my whole heart away, I can't go back in the back yard and re-video tape them, they can't be replaced."
Now private investigator, Mike Cook, is stepping up to help for free. Cook is hitting area pawn shops in hopes of locating the camera. Cook recently had his first son and was touched by Courtney's story.
Cook says, "Once they explained that it was regarding his son who passed away a month earlier, it pulled at our heart, and we as a group decided we wanted to try to get these memories back."
He says it's like finding a needle in a haystack, but his company is doing all they can, including combing websites like eBay and Craigslist.
The hope now is to return what's left of Courtney's son, even if it is just the memories.
