GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM/AP) -- Former President George H.W. Bush remains in intensive care, but a family spokesman says he's improving.
The spokesman says the 88-year-old is alert and in good spirits. He says President Bush's conversations with doctors and nurses now include singing.
Bush has been in a Houston hospital for more than a month, but former Grand Rapids Rep. Vern Ehlers has faith President Bush will recover.
"He was a very fine man and still is," says Ehlers. "I haven't given up on him. He's tough. I guess that comes from being from Texas. He is just a very capable man, worked hard, did a good job and he won't give up easily."
Former President Bush was moved to intensive care on Sunday because of a fever and cough caused by bronchitis.
