GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - Experience Grand Rapids, the official destination marketing organization for Kent County, was awarded the 2013 Governor's Award for Innovative Tourism Collaboration in the Tourism Marketing/Promotion category.
The Michigan Travel Commission and the Tourism Industry Coalition of Michigan presented the award during the Pure Michigan Governor's Conference on Tourism in Detroit this week.
The honor is given to organizations that have worked together to serve the community and bring positive attention to the Michigan travel industry.
In collaboration with local breweries and restaurants, Experience Grand Rapids created the inaugural "Cool Brews. Hot Eats." The two week promotion paired together local craft beer and food. Fifty-nine participating restaurants and breweries signed up to share in this revolutionary new food and beer promotion. Sales during the first week were reported anywhere from 20 to 60 percent increase over the same week in 2012.
This is the second time Experience Grand Rapids has received the Governor's Award for Innovative Tourism Collaboration. The last time was in 2010.
