GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - This weekend a Rotary Joint District Conference called "peace through service" is in Grand Rapids. The three-day conference unites over 300 Rotarians and guests from the United States and Canada.
The goal is to share best practices and explore the future of Rotary. This weekend also marks the 100th anniversary of the Grand Rapids Rotary Club. Conference Chairman Tom Mathison says, "Rotary is the oldest service organization in the world and one of the largest. We have more than 1.2 million members around the world. And we are doing projects related to humanity, eradicating polio, water projects to create clean and viable water, aiding in hunger and disease all over the world. Our local clubs and our district is involved in projects literally around the world as well as in our own communities."
Mayor George Heartwell welcomed participants to town on Friday. Former MSU and NBA player Greg Kelser, Matt Giraud from American Idol, and Grammy-Award-winning recording artist Red Grammer are being featured at the event.
