Drake Harris made the cover of USA Today Friday, August 16.
GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM)-West Michigan's top high school football player is on the cover of USA Today.
The newspaper selected Drake Harris to grace the front page of Friday's edition, as it unveiled its 2013 preseason all-American list. Harris is a senior at Grand Rapids Christian who will play at the University of Michigan after graduating.
USA Today also named Grand Rapids Christian the top high school team in Michigan, regardless of class. USA Today and WZZM are both owned by Gannett, but WZZM did not have any influence on the rankings.
WZZM 13 spoke with Harris earlier this week about what's ahead for him this season:
"I know that I have to play great every game. I know that everyone's going to take their best shot at me and all the d-backs are going to play hard against me, so I know I can't take any plays off and I just have to go out there and play 100% every day," said Harris.
Harris caught a state record 2,016 yards last season.
"You see him on Friday nights and we see him in practice every day, and you know that you're getting to watch a once-in-a-lifetime type kid," said head coach Don Fellows.
Harris will be tested right away; the Eagles open the season against defending division four state champion South Christian, and meet Muskegon in week two.
13 On Your Sidelines premieres Thursday, August 29.
