Melissa Duncan and Travis Brown
ROCKFORD, Mich. (WZZM) -- Police say they arrested two Florida gang members Monday as they attempted to cash a forged stolen check.
Investigators say Melissa Duncan and Travis Brown are members of the Felony Lane Gang, based in Fort Lauderdale.
Gang members allegedly target recreational facilities and parks across the country, breaking into unattended cars where purses have been left inside. Checks and identification are stolen from and gang members in disguises try to cash the forged checks at drive-up lanes of banks.
The Rockford Public Safety Department says three vehicles were broken into on August 12 and a stolen check was passed at Choice One Bank on Courtland Drive. That triggered a set of events that led to Duncan and Brown's arrest.
Investigators also found checks, credit cards, and identification for 13 people from the area.
Duncan and Brown are being held in the Kent County Jail. Brown is also wanted in Broward County, Florida for a felony probation violation.
