(WZZM) - Michigan State Police announced the loss of one of their own Tuesday.
Officer Dennis Myers died early Tuesday morning, after suffering critical injuries in a rollover accident while off-duty.
The crash happened last Monday night on CR 352 near Delta Drive just outside of Decatur. Myers lost control of his Honda Civic and overturned. Deputies say Myers was in cardiac arrest when crews arrived on scene.
In 2010, Myers was honored as Michigan State Police Motor Carrier Officer of the Year, which is an award that is issued to officers with outstanding professional ethics, dedication to duty, and concern for giving back to his/her community.
Myers first joined Michigan State Police in 2001, and was transferred to his final post in Paw Paw in 2007.
Myers was taken off life support just after midnight Tuesday.
He leaves behind his wife and two sons.
