Egelston Twp., Mich. (WZZM) A lot of people are talking about the changes to the football jerseys in the Oakridge School District. Tom Livsey is Superintendent at Oakridge Public Schools, "This community has an intense since of pride."
But the one place you will not see the name "Oakridge" this season is on the district's varsity football team's away jerseys.
Livsey thought the update would be a good thing, "Just a simple design change would create some excitement." Livsey says the old away jerseys were worn out. "Our football uniforms get more use than most school districts."
The coaching staff designed the new jersey. It has the school mascot on the shoulder and the word 'ridge' on the chest. "Tradition is big out here and I want our community to know the board has not voted to change our name. There is no policy violation here. This is simply our coaching staff wanting to keep with the tradition of a new fresh design for our away jerseys."
Livsey says the use of "ridge" instead of Oakridge on a school uniform is in no way a sign the district's name will change too. He says Oakridge Public Schools is here to stay.
