IONIA, Mich. (WZZM) - An Isabella County man who pleaded guilty to murdering a Mount Pleasant woman on Halloween has killed himself.
A spokesman for the Michigan Department of Corrections says John Douglas White hung himself Wednesday morning at the Michigan Reformatory in Ionia.
White pleaded guilty to second degree murder in the death of Rebekah Gay, 24. The prosecutor said on October 31, 2012, White entered Gay's home, hit her over the head several times with a rubber mallet, and then put a zip tie around her neck. Police say White confessed to killing Gay as part of a sexual fantasy.
Gay's three-year-old son was home at the time. Police said after the murder, white took care of the boy and dressed him in his Halloween costume.
Gay's body was found in a ditch the next day, close to her home.
