GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- Police are searching for the suspect involved in an assault at a downtown Grand Rapids park.
It happened around 7 p.m. Sunday at Heartside Park, 301 Ionia Ave. SW.
Officers say a man was arguing with a former girlfriend when a couple approached, telling him to leave her alone. The victim started arguing with the couple when the male suspect hit the victim once in the head, causing him to fall to the ground.
Police say they found the victim unconscious and bleeding from his head. The victim is in critical condition at Mercy Health-Saint Mary's Hospital, though doctors are not sure whether the man's closed-head injury is due to either the punch or the fall.
The suspect walked away from the scene. He's described by police as black, 40-45 years old, and six feet tall. He was wearing a brown "button-up" shirt and blue shorts.
Anyone with information on the incident and/or the suspect is asked to call Grand Rapids Police at (616) 456-3604, or Silent Observer at (616) 774-2345.
