A. Not an automatic given. Based on completion of tasks/work. Dishes, yard, help with housework. Even if you have a cleaning person in your home or you enjoy doing it or doing it your way. Children need to work and help out at home.
B. Have a set amount with expectations of jobs listed. Have one expectation be "and other jobs mom or dad may think of as needed". Then money taken away if not completed. Works better than paying her job. Extras could be earned that way.
C. Other jobs. I used to carry things in a wagon for people. Safety issues taken into consideration.
Helping elderly, churches, or having a small business. I also sold bookmarks and other things I made. Teaches entrepreneurshipand budgeting and money management.
Ok to set up what allowance is expected to be used for. Souvenirs on trips will be taken out of this and not mom and dad's money for example. Help with more expensive clothing or other items wanted.
Studies show: Patterns continue into adulthood, value the nature of work and saving and earning, deferred gratification, associating payment with performance,
If they run out of money stick to your guns. Oh, well...save and plan better next time. The real world.
