GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- The fifth annual ArtPrize competition officially kicks off Wednesday, but art lovers got an early dose Saturday with a special preview event.
At the ArtPrize Hub on Sheldon Boulevard, the public had a chance to activate their voting accounts in person before the rush, and purchase brand new ArtClub memberships.
Last year's top winner, 'Elephants' was on display and the ArtPrize store opened with this year's merchandise.
Organizers say The Hub is a central point for ArtPrize visitors.
"We have basically a starting point-- a place where you can hang out with your children, map out your route, and kind of get your start-- right here at The Hub," said Brian Burch, ArtPrize PR director.
ArtPrize begins Wednesday and lasts for 19 days, ending October 6. There are more than 1,500 entries this year from 45 states and 47 countries.
