CRYSTAL FALLS, Mich. (AP) - Officials say they found a 78-year-old hunter from Muskegon who spent a night in the woods of Michigan's Upper Peninsula after becoming lost.
The search for Leroy Carlston began Monday evening, when authorities say he called 911 reporting that he was lost somewhere in Iron County. Deputies from Iron and Baraga counties responded along with state troopers and searched until early Tuesday.
Carlston told authorities he had food and water, and was comfortable staying in his vehicle overnight. The search resumed Tuesday morning, with others joining in. He was found Tuesday afternoon after he helped guide a helicopter crew to his location in southern Baraga County.
Carlston was found unharmed and in good spirits. He told the Iron County sheriff's department that he planned to continue his grouse hunting trip.
