WHITEHALL, Mich. (WZZM) -- Township leaders Monday night rejected an effort to stop the construction of a new Walmart.
The company wants to build a 126,000 square foot store on 30 acres of land at U.S. 31 and Whitehall-Holton Road.
A group calling itself BOW NOT - Back Off Walmart, Not Our Town tried to appeal the zoning board's approval of the store. However the township rejected their appeal and approved zoning board's recommendation.
Opponents say they will continue their efforts to stop the store. Susan Collins from BOW NOT says 3,000 people have signed petitions opposing the store and many others are providing money to keep the fight going.
Walmart says the supercenter is a solution for residents who want to find a job or affordable shopping options.
