(WZZM) - Environmental researchers are worried about the levels of pharmaceuticals and personal care products in the Great Lakes.
Our partners at USA today are reporting that a new study reveals chemicals like toothpaste additives and even hormones from birth control pills are now present in Lake Michigan.
The chemicals were found as much as two miles off-shore, which is a distance that is far enough to worry environmental professionals. Usually chemicals stay close to land, and the location off-shore hints at a higher chemical level than originally estimated.
Researchers say little is known about the impact that these chemicals have on aquatic life.
