HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) - Ottawa County deputies are trying to determine if alcohol played a role in a serious crash that closed a highway.
The crash happened just after 2:30 a.m. Friday at U.S. 31 and Felch Street. Sergeant Matt Wildfong says a 2007 freightliner was stopped at the light when a car smashed into the back of it. When deputies arrived, the car was pinned underneath the semi-truck. Holland Township Fire Rescue had to cut all three passengers out of the crumpled car.
The driver of the car, whose name is being withheld, was taken to a nearby hospital where he's in serious condition. The front seat passenger, 23-year-old Angela Brown of Holland Township is listed in good condition. The backseat passenger, 30-year-old Lajoyia Meitzenheimer of Holland Township, is also listed in good condition.
Wildfong says the semi-truck was carrying a caustic chemical, but none leaked onto the road. The accident shut down northbound U.S. 31 for approximately an hour.
The driver of semi-truck was not injured.
