EAST GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - Homecoming week culminates tonight with the football against Lowell. No matter what the score however, the school community had a winning week.
One of the highlights was the election of Joshua Pittman to the homecoming court. Pittman, a popular senior, is autistic, towards the severe end of the spectrum.
His mother, Yvette, says their family is overwhelmed by what they call a fantastic honor. "I think because of the community he has here at East Grand Rapids schools, he has been very successful. He loves coming to school."
Seniors Tim Blewett and Olivia Kalill had championed Pittman's candidacy. They're optimistic he will win the top honor when the king and queen of homecoming are crowned at the half time of Friday's football game against Lowell.
