Memorial fund at Walker Police Department for Officer Trevor Slot
WALKER, Mich. (WZZM) -- Sunday marks the second anniversary of Walker Police Officer Trevor Slot's death on I-96 near Marne.
Time has not silenced Trevor Slot's memory. Two years ago Slot was run over by robbery suspects as he laid out stop sticks on I-96. His chief now hopes to get that stretch of highway re-named in his honor.
Chief Garcia-Lindstrom says, "I can tell you there's not a single time I drive that stretch of road I don't think of him. And I'm sure the community does too."
It passed the house unanimously, and now needs the Senate's approval. Valentine, Slot's former Chief in Lowell says, it's Slot's life that left a mark on the community.
"Trevor's just amazing that he could write people tickets and take them to jail the next night they'd be seeking him out talking to him"
Valentine says the scar left on the law enforcement community is also a reminder.
"It reminds people to rely on their training and not become complacent because you never know when something like this could happen."
It's something Walker won't soon forget.
