WALKER, Mich. (WZZM) -- Kenowa Hills volleyball players are honoring a teammate's mother who has breast cancer.
The girls from the Kenowa Hills High School varsity team hosted a pink game Thursday night in honor of one of the parents, Shanon Wieber. The 42-year-old mother was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer last year.
The girls on the team recently made a public service announcement for the Susan G. Koman Foundation to raise awareness of the need for early detection.
Shanon's daughter, Lauren Wieber says it's been amazing to see all the support for her family. "I have my best friends, they have been great, but just having support from people I don't even know is fantastic."
"Shanon is honestly like a mother to all of us and we love her so much and we just want her help here when she's going through hard times," says teammate Jana Rasch.
The girls say they've learned a lot about breast cancer and the importance of early detection and doing self-breast exams.
