GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - Some 1,500 senior citizens in the Grand Rapids area received boxes full of food today, after some delay.
ACSET, the Area Community Services Employment and Training Council, distributed about 600 boxes of food thanks to support from the community.
The food distribution was delayed earlier this month due to the federal government shutdown, when ACSET had to temporarily lay off staff. Therefore food boxes could not be delivered to several neighborhoods and apartment complexes.
Thanks to help from volunteers who boxed and sorted food, the food was distributed on Friday.
