ALPINE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) -- Work has begun to tear down an Kent County golf clubhouse that was destroyed by fire.
The Alpine Golf Club clubhouse caught fire in early April, the night before the golf course was scheduled to open for the season. It was being remodeled when the fire started.

The owners were on hand Monday morning to watch the old building's demolition.
"You know, a sentimental loss to a neat old building that has been here for 50 years and was the site of a lot of people's first job and first round of golf," explained owner Jerry Kimis. "The new page is exciting too. The new building will afford us to be much stronger in the outing business-- a very polished finish to a good round of golf."
Construction on a new clubhouse is expected to start next week and should be completed in April just in time for 2014 golf season.
