Two cars and a semi were involved in the crash that killed Andrea Herrera and Eric Fischer.
LOWELL, Mich. (WZZM)-Family and friends gathered Thursday night to remember a West Michigan woman taken before her time.
Andrea Herrera, 21, and her boyfriend, 23-year-old Eric Fischer, were killed by a drunk driver on October 10. Thursday night, memories of Hererra filled the Kent County Fairgrounds in Lowell, as the community held a candlelight vigil.
Herrera and Fischer's vehicle was hit by a car driven by 27-year-old Joseph Ford of Wyoming. Police say Ford drove through the intersection at 36th Street and Patterson Avenue. The impact of the crash sent both vehicles into the path of an oncoming semi-truck.
According to court documents, Ford's friend told officers that Ford bought between two and four beers at a local tavern, plus a shot of liquor. Ford is charged with two counts of drunken driving causing death. If convicted, he could spend up to 15 years in prison.
