ALLEGAN COUNTY, Mich. (WZZM)-- Allegan County Sheriff's deputies are looking for the driver who hit a Lee Township woman while she was likely rescuing a cat.
A passerby found 21-year-old Rachel Krieger injured and lying on 60th Street near 106th Avenue around 10:36 p.m. Thursday. The witness says Krieger's vehicle was still running and the driver's door was open , with a wet cat sitting on the driver's seat. The passerby stayed with Krieger until paramedics and deputies arrived. Krieger was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.
Deputies believe Krieger stopped and got out of her car to help the cat in the road when she was hit by another vehicle. Krieger's mother says her family does not own a cat.
Based on evidence at the scene, deputies are looking for a 1998-1999 Chevrolet or General Motors pick-up truck or SUV. The vehicle would have damage to the driver's side front end, with a missing headlight.
Anyone with information in this case is asked to call the Allegan County Sheriff's Office Detective Bureau at (616) 673-0500 or Silent Observer.
