PAW PAW, Mich. (WZZM) - A 28-year-old Redford man is in jail after leading police on a two county chase that reached speeds of over 100 mph.
Michigan State Police began receiving calls about 4:15pm of a reckless driving traveling westbound on I-94 in Calhoun, then Kalamazoo County. Near mile marker 83 in Comstock Township, the suspect passed a Michigan State Police trooper on the right shoulder, while the trooper was driving in the right lane.
As the suspect reached Portage, he swerved across two lanes of traffic and clipped the rear end of a vehicle driven by a 27-year-old woman, who had her two six-year-old sons with her in the car. He lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the ditch where he was taken into custody. The woman and her children were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
The suspect was also not injured. He is being charged with OWI III and fleeing and eluding police. Police also suspect that drug use was a factor in the chase and crash.
The suspect's name will be released after his arraignment.
