In May, Margaret Pittman stopped to help VanPutten after a crash on East Paris near Lake Drive in Kentwood. When Pittman ran up to see if she was okay, VanPutten drove forward and ran her over, killing her.
Court records show that VanPutten's foot hit the gas pedal causing the truck to lurch forward as Pittman crossed in front of the pickup.
VanPutten faced a maximum of one year in jail for a moving violation, causing death.
