Oakland, CA (Sports Network) - The Athletics called up hot-hitting infielder
Eric Sogard from Triple-A Sacramento and optioned first baseman Chris Carter
to the minor league club.
Sogard, 25, was leading the River Cats with 94 hits, 55 runs scored and 13
stolen bases when he was promoted before Friday's series-opener against the
Angels.
He was batting .298 with five homers and 37 RBI in 79 games for Sacramento and
will provide the A's with another left-handed bat. Sogard made his major
league debut with the A's last September, going 3-for-7 in a four-game callup.
Carter batted just .133 without knocking in a run during a 10-game stint after
the A's recalled him from Sacramento on June 23. He started nine of the team's
last 11 games before the All-Star break, including six at first base and three
as the designated hitter.
The A's entered the break on a four-game losing streak and were just 1-6 in
their last seven games entering the Angels series.
