Bremerton, WA (Sports Network) - Beau Hossler and William Starke posted matching four-under 68s Monday to share the lead after one round of stroke play at the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship.

Hossler competed in the 2009 U.S. Amateur and also qualified for this year's U.S. Open, but missed the cut. He tripped out of the gate with a bogey on No. 10 on the Olympic Course at Gold Mountain Golf Club.

The 16-year-old Californian came back with birdies on 14 and 16 to make the turn at minus-one. Hossler birdied three of four holes from the second to get to four-under. He parred his last four holes to end there.

Starke parred seven in a row to start his round. He carded his first birdie on the eighth, then had back-to-back birdies on 10 and 11.

The South Carolina native birdied No. 15, then parred the final three holes to wrap up a bogey-free round.

Taylor Moore and Chelso Barrett share third place at minus-three. Yi Keun Chang and A.J. McInerney are one stroke back at two-under 70. James Park, Cody Proveaux and Wesley Gosselin are the last players in red figures at minus-one.

Jordan Spieth is one of nine players tied at even-par 72. Spieth, the 2009 champion, has made the cut at the last two Byron Nelson Championships on the PGA Tour.

Reigning champion Jim Liu struggled to a six-over 78. When Liu won last year, he became the youngest winner in the history of the U.S. Junior Amateur.

The second round of stroke play is slated for Tuesday. The first round of match play will be Wednesday, followed by rounds two and three on Thursday. The quarterfinal and semifinals round will take place on Friday, before the 36-hole final on Saturday.
