Neshanic Station, NJ (Sports Network) - For the second straight year, Annie
Park has reached the quarterfinals at the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links
Championship.
Park, who fell in the semis last year, earned a 2 & 1 win over Brittany
Altomare in Thursday's third round at Neshanic Valley Golf Course. Earlier in
the day, Park downed Sally Watson, 3 & 1. Watson was also a quarterfinalist
last year.
Park advances to face Alice Jeong in the quarters. Jeong beat stroke-play
medalist and 2010 runner-up Lisa McCloskey in the second round, then fended
off Allyssa Ferrell in the round of 16. Ferrell bogeyed the 17th to give Jeong
the 1-up lead, then the pair matched pars at the last.
Lakareber Abe picked up a pair of 1-up victories on Thursday. She downed
Elisabeth Bernabe in the morning, then beat 2010 U.S. Girls' Junior champion
Doris Chen in the afternoon. Abe won the 14th when Chen made double-bogey,
then won the match as the duo halved the last four holes.
Abe will take on Kyung Kim, who won her two matches by the same 2 & 1 margin.
Kim took out Yi Chen Liu in round two and Rachel Morris in the third round.
Chirapat Jao-Javanil cruised to a 4 & 3 victory over Pailin Ruttanasupagid in
the third round after holding off Karen Chung, 2-up, in round two.
Jao-Javanil will battle Kim Kaufman in the quarterfinals. Kaufman hung on for
a 2 & 1 win over Allisen Corpuz in round three. Earlier in the day, Kaufman
beat 2011 quarterfinalist Demi Frances Runas, 3 & 2.
The final quarterfinal match will pit Grace Na against Ashlan Ramsey. Na had
the easiest day of any competitor, winning her first match 4 & 3 over Lea
Garner. In the afternoon, Na cruised to a 5 & 3 victory over Kristine Odaiyar.
Ramsey had a relatively easy first match as she bounced Emilie Burger, 4 & 3.
In round three, Ramsey earned a 1-up win over Jennifer Yang after Yang made
double-bogey on the final hole.
