Phoenix, AZ (Sports Network) - The Arizona Diamondbacks recalled pitcher Bryan
Shaw and selected the contract of infielder Jake Elmore from Triple-A Reno on
Saturday.
The moves come after the Diamondbacks lost two players from their active
roster: infielder Willie Bloomquist to the 15-day disabled list with a
strained lower back and pitcher Mike Zagurski to an assignment designation.
The 24-year-old Shaw pitched to a 2.25 earned run average in Reno after being
optioned on July 22. In the majors, Shaw is 1-4 with a 4.26 ERA with two saves
in 43 games this season.
Elmore, 25, hit .344 with 30 doubles, one home run and 73 RBI in 108 games
with Reno this season. He ranks second in the Pacific Coast League with 32
stolen bases.
Bloomquist hit .300 with 21 doubles and 22 RBI in 79 games this season,
playing 64 games at shortstop, 11 at third base and one each at second base,
left field and right field. His DL stint is retroactive to August 9.
Zagurski had a 6.18 ERA in 32 games this season.
