Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - Boston Red Sox third baseman Will
Middlebrooks had his right wrist fracture confirmed on Saturday and was placed
on the 15-day disabled list.
Middlebrooks was hit by an Esmil Rogers pitch on Friday and had to leave the
game in favor of a pinch runner. Reports surfaced Friday night about the
injury and were confirmed on Saturday.
It's unknown how long he will be out, though the Boston Globe reported he may
miss the remainder of the season.
Middlebrooks has played 75 games in his rookie season and has a .288 batting
average, .325 on-base percentage and .509 slugging percentage. He also slugged
15 homers, hit 14 doubles and drove in 54 runs.
To replace Middlebrooks on the roster, the Red Sox recalled newly acquired
third baseman Danny Valencia from Triple-A Pawtucket. Valencia was brought
over from Minnesota last week and has a .260 batting average in 273 career
games with the Twins.
