Cincinnati, OH (Sports Network) - Roy Halladay spun 7 1/3 innings of one-run
ball Wednesday, as the Philadelphia Phillies downed the Cincinnati Reds, 6-2,
in the finale of a three-game set at Great American Ball Park. Halladay (9-7)
scattered eight hits and walked one with five strikeouts to earn his third
consecutive winning decision. Erik Kratz clubbed a three-run home run and
Chase Utley added a two-run blast, as the Phillies wrapped up a six-game road
trip at 4-2. Mike Leake (7-9) was tagged for six runs on six hits and one walk
over just 2 1/3 innings to absorb the loss. Jay Bruce finished with three
hits, including a solo home run and two RBI for the Reds, who have dropped
eight straight season series against Philadelphia. Joey Votto stroked a pair
of base hits as he returned to the Reds lineup for the first time since July
15 while recovering from a pair of surgeries on his left knee.

R.A. Dickey pitched effectively into the seventh inning, as the New York Mets
downed the St. Louis Cardinals, 6-2, in the finale of a three-game series
Wednesday at Busch Stadium. Dickey (18-4) allowed two runs on eight hits and a
walk with five strikeouts over 6 2/3 frames to earn his major league-leading
18th victory of the season. He became the first Mets pitcher to reach 18 wins
since Frank Viola and Dwight Gooden both accomplished the feat in 1990. Justin
Turner and Mike Baxter each scored twice, while Daniel Murphy finished 3-for-5
with a run scored for the Mets, who wrapped up a nine-game road trip at 6-3.
Adam Wainwright (13-12) was tagged with the loss after giving up five runs on
eight hits and two walks over five frames. He also smacked his first home run
of the season in the setback, the Cardinals' sixth in their last nine games.

Washington, DC (Sports Network) - One night after blasting a franchise-record
six home runs, the Washington Nationals did it again on Wednesday, en route to
a 9-1 drubbing of the Chicago Cubs in the third installment of a four-game
series. Bryce Harper led the offensive assault with a pair of homers. Adam
LaRoche clubbed a two-run shot, his third in the past two games, while Roger
Bernadina, Ian Desmond and Danny Espinosa all whacked homers for the
Nationals, who have won four consecutive games. Gio Gonzalez (18-7) threw
seven scoreless innings, taking a no-hitter into the sixth, while allowing
just three hits. He struck out nine and did not issue a walk to collect his
second consecutive positive decision. He is tied with New York's R.A. Dickey
for the major-league lead in wins. Anthony Rizzo accounted for the lone run
with a homer, while Chris Volstad (2-10) took the loss after allowing five
runs on nine hits and four walks over five innings for the Cubs, who have
dropped five in a row.

Brock Holt knocked in a pair of runs to lead the Pittsburgh Pirates past the
Houston Astros, 6-3, in the rubber match of a three-game series at PNC Park.
Correia (10-8), who got the start in place of an injured Jeff Karstens,
allowed one run on four hits and a walk for his first win since Aug. 8. He was
making his sixth appearance and third start since his last victory. Alex
Presley added two hits, an RBI and three runs scored for the Pirates, who won
their second straight following a four-game slide. Fernando Abad (0-3) was
touched for five runs -- four earned -- on six hits and three walks over four
innings for Houston, which lost for the ninth time in 11 games. Brandon Laird
homered in a losing effort.

Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Mike Minor worked seven scoreless innings to
guide the Atlanta Braves past the Colorado Rockies, 1-0, in the middle test of
a three-game set at Turner Field. Minor (8-10), who carried a no-hitter into
the seventh, allowed just one hit and struck out seven while walking four.
Chipper Jones scored the game's lone run, while Michael Bourn, Jason Heyward
and Minor also tallied hits for the Braves, winners in three of four. Craig
Kimbrel stranded two in the eighth inning and one in the ninth to earn his
33rd save of the year. Alex White (2-8) was charged with the loss after giving
up one unearned run on two hits and four walks over four innings. Jordan
Pacheco broke up Minor's no-hit bid with a single in the seventh inning.

Miami, FL (Sports Network) - Rickie Weeks blasted a pair of two-run homers and
scored three runs to help lead the Milwaukee Brewers to an 8-5 win over the
Miami Marlins in the third contest of a four-game series. Corey Hart went 2-
for-4 with a two-run homer and four RBI. The Brewers have won 13 of their last
16 games, catapulting them back into contention for the final wild card spot.
They trail the St. Louis Cardinals by 6 1/2 games with 27 left to play. Wily
Peralta (1-0) made his first career start Wednesday night and gave the Brewers
a quality outing. He pitched six-plus solid innings, giving up three runs on
five hits and four walks while striking out three. Brewers closer John Axford
recorded his 25th save of the season and his second save in as many days after
tossing a scoreless ninth. Nathan Eovaldi (4-11) gave up two runs on six hits
and struck out four over five frames.

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Carlos Quentin hit a go-ahead, seventh-
inning sacrifice fly on Wednesday and the San Diego Padres downed the Los
Angeles Dodgers, 4-3, in the rubber match of a three-game series. Chase
Headley, the NL Player of the Month for August, went 2-for-5 with an RBI
double. Will Venable scored a pair of runs, including the game-winner, for the
Padres, who won for the 12th time in 16 tries. Clayton Richard entered
Wednesday with a three-start winning streak but received a no-decision after
allowing three runs on 10 hits over 4 2/3 frames. Nick Vincent (2-0) tossed 1
1/3 scoreless frames of relief to secure the win. Tommy Layne entered with two
down and a runner of first in the ninth and retired Adrian Gonzalez on a sharp
grounder to record his second save of the season. Gonzalez, Hanley Ramirez and
Luis Cruz had an RBI apiece for the Dodgers, who trail the NL West-leading
Giants by 4 1/2 games. The teams will open a three-game set in San Francisco
on Friday. Aaron Harang gave up three runs -- two earned -- on seven hits over
a five-inning start and Shawn Tolleson (1-1) allowed Quentin's sac fly to take
the loss.

seventh inning on Wednesday and the Arizona Diamondbacks topped the San
Francisco Giants, 6-2, in the finale of a three-game series at AT&T Park.
Cahill (10-11) was charged with two runs on two hits and a pair of walks with
five strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings to earn his first win since July 30. Chris
Johnson clubbed a two-run double, while Aaron Hill, Paul Goldschmidt, Miguel
Montero and John McDonald all knocked in a run for the Diamondbacks, who have
won back-to-back games on the heels of a three-game slide. Brandon Belt smoked
a two-run single for the Giants, who have lost two straight after winning
three in a row. Madison Bumgarner (14-10) was saddled with his third straight
loss after allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks with five strikeouts
over 6 1/3 innings.
