Kalamazoo, Mich. (WZZM) Western Michigan University Monday evening confirmed the hiring of P.J. Fleck as its new head football coach. Fleck has spent this season as the wide receivers coach of the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He previously held the same position at Rutgers University.

A graduate of Northern Illinois University, Fleck ended his playing career as one of the school's most prolific pass catchers. He spent two seasons as a player in the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers.

Fleck is tentatively scheduled to be introduced at a 3:00 pm news conference Tuesday but plans are on hold. Western Michigan University says Fleck's wife went into labor Monday afternoon.

Fleck will replace Bill Cubit who was fired at the end of the season.
