Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Patrick Miller scored a game-high 28 points
to lead the Tennessee State Tigers to a 67-59 win over the Eastern Illinois
Panthers in Ohio Valley Conference action at the Gentry Center.
Miller made good on 7-of-8 shots from the floor, including 3-of-3 behind the
3-point line, as well as converting all 11 of his attempts at the free-throw
line for the Tigers (7-7, 1-0 OVC) as they won for the third time in the last
four outings. Also having a strong game for the Tigers was Kellen Thornton who
posted a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, followed by Jordan
Cyphers with 14 points.
The Panthers (3-11, 0-1) were paced by Alex Austin who delivered 18 points in
25 minutes of action, while Taylor Jones chipped in 14 points as he made good
on 4-of-8 shots on the perimeter in their seventh consecutive loss.
TSU scored the first points of the night and never looked back, shooting 52.4
percent from the floor in the opening half in order to establish a 32-19 lead
at the break.
In the second half the Tigers again shot the ball well at a 57.9 percent clip,
but at the same time EIU connected on 61.9 percent from the floor, up from a
mere 26.1 percent in the first half, to make things interesting before bowing
in the eight-point decision.
In addition to allowing the hosts to shoot 55.0 percent from the floor and 7-
of-14 beyond the arc, the Panthers managed to clear only three offensive
rebounds in the meeting.
