Zagreb, Croatia (Sports Network) - Two-time champion Marion Cilic eased
into the quarterfinals, while former titlist Marcos Baghdatis was a second-
round upset victim Thursday at the Zagreb Indoors tennis event.
The top-seeded Croatian crowd favorite Cilic leveled Slovenian Grega Zemlja
6-2, 6-3.
The Zagreb resident, who titled here back-to-back in 2009 and 2010, will
face another Slovenian in Blaz Kavcic on Friday.
Kavcic ousted the sixth-seeded Cypriot Baghdatis 3-6, 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 at
Dom Sportova. The former Australian Open runner-up Baghdatis captured this
Zagreb tournament back in 2007.
Another upset came when capable Dutchman Robin Haase doused fifth-seeded
Slovak Martin Klizan, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4.
Meanwhile, fourth-seeded Austrian left-hander Jurgen Melzer avoided the upset
bug by coming from behind to best Indian Somdev Devvarman, 1-6, 7-6 (7-5),
6-2.
Up next for Melzer will be big-serving Czech Lukas Rosol, who snuck past
Italian Flavio Cipolla, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3.
Also on Day 3, German qualifier Philipp Petzschner dismissed Croatian lucky-
loser Dino Marcan 6-3, 6-4, as Marcan replaced ill second seed Andreas Seppi
of Italy in the draw.
Petzschner will meet Haase in Friday's quarterfinals.
