COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. (WZZM) - The West Michigan Whitecaps 20th season opener is in the books, along with their first win.

Hundreds of fans lined up to get into Fifth Third Ballpark for the first time this season, mostly wearing blue -- but near the front, a pop of white.

Tim Orlowski and his father-in-law Jerry Green bought their hats on the first-ever opening day 19 years ago, back when in was called Old Kent Park.

"It was cold, rainy, snowing. I was working second shift at the time. I told my boss if they played the game, I'm leaving work to come to the game. They played it and we came the very first game," said Orlowski.

For 19 years, they've sat in the same area. Tim's kids and Jerry's grandkids grew up watching these games, and now the two keep coming for the memories, good games, and good food.

"You gotta have those baconators or whatever," said Green. "Yeah, they have good food," added Orlowski.

So far, they're still not sick of each other.

"He can drink a beer, and I can drink a beer," said Orlowski.

Fans got their money's worth at the season opener.  The Whitecaps and Dayton Dragons were tied 6-6 at the end of nine innings.  The 'Caps Jake Stewart hit to the right field fence, and Jeff Hume trotted in the game-winning run.  The final was 7-6, West Michigan.
