GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) -- Golf legend Jack Nicklaus has taken the stage in Grand Rapids with Gerald Ford's son Steve to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the late president's birth.

Dozens of people were on hand for the $100-a-plate event to hear the 73-year-old speak at a luncheon Thursday at the JW Marriott's International Ballroom.

Nicklaus and Steve Ford took the stage for the event, billed as "A Conversation with Golf Legend Jack Nicklaus."

Proceeds are being used for curriculum development at a new learning center being built at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum in Grand Rapids.

Ford's son Steve says Nicklaus "played many rounds of golf with" the president, "and he was a close family friend for many of those years."

Nicklaus was an honorary pallbearer during Gerald Ford's 2007 funeral.
