GRAND RAPIDS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) -- A West Michigan student athlete is about to embark on a trip of a lifetime with the goal of gaining some worldwide recognition.
Forest Hills Northern junior Mitch Dewey leaves Sunday for Sofia, Bulgaria, where he will compete at the World Trampoline and Tumbling competition.
He's 16 years old and ranked number one in the country in his age bracket.
Dewey says he's been preparing for this moment since he was 8 and hopes a good showing next week will put him on the radar for the 2016 men's Olympic gymnastic team in Rio.
"The hardest competition I think I will have is probably the Russians and Germans," said Dewey.
