Calvin stuns Hope in MIAA Tournament title game, 78-53

HOLLAND, Mich. (WZZM) -- The Calvin men's basketball team lost its two previous games to rival Hope during the regular season, but on Saturday, when it counted most, the Knights figured out how to take down their arch rivals, blowing out Hope in the MIAA Tournament championship game, 78-53.

With the win, Calvin secures the automatic bid to the Division III national tournament.

Hope will have to wait until the selection show to find out if it will be awarded an at-large bid to the tournament.

Calvin was led in scoring by Jordan Brink, who poured in 21 points.

Tyler Kruis added 18.

Calvin back court guard tandem of Jordan Daley and Austin Parks combined for 20 points.

Hope got the early jump in the game, taking an early 13-2 lead.

But Calvin fought back to grab a 29-24 halftime lead.

The second half was all Calvin, which outscored Hope 49-29 in the final twenty minutes.

Hope only made 8-30 from the field in the second half for only 26.7% shooting.

Calvin made 6 of 10 three-pointers in the second half while Hope was only 1-11 from behind the arc.

The Flying Dutchmen were led in scoring by Nate VanArendonk and Sam Otto who each scored 10 points.
