Michigan has reached out to the No. 1-ranked prospect in the 2018 class on the first day of allowed recruiting contact with high school juniors.

According to 247Sports' Georgia website, U-M joined Georgia, Clemson, Florida State, LSU and Oklahoma in contacting Cartersville, Ga., five-star quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

Lawrence is listed at 6-feet-6 and 198 pounds.

Michigan already has the No. 2-ranked quarterback in the 2017 class committed: Highlands Ranch (Colo.) Valor Christian's Dylan McCaffrey. The Wolverines are targeting a number of high-level quarterbacks in the 2018 class, as well.

The 247 story says Lawrence could make a decision on his future in October.

By NCAA rules, schools are allowed to begin contacting junior prospects via various methods, including Twitter, on Sept. 1. Some prospects were contacted just after midnight.
