Ferris State stuns No. 1 seed Fort Hays State

Ferris State football is a win away from returning to the NCAA Division II national semifinals after upsetting top-seeded Fort Hays State, 31-21, on Saturday at Lewis Field Stadium in Hays, Kan.

Reggie Bell accounted for 246 total yards and a touchdown, and Jahaan Brown rushed for 62 yards and two TDs as the fourth-seeded Bulldogs (11-1) stunned the unbeaten Tigers (11-1) in the second round.

Ferris State, ranked No. 3 in the Division II preseason poll, advances to play No. 7 seed Harding (10-3) in the national quarterfinals next week. Harding beat No. 3 seed Ashland, 34-24, on Saturday. 

Ferris State never trailed on Saturday and led  31-7 in the fourth quarter after  Brown scored the second of his two 3-yard touchdown runs. Bell was 13-for-23 passing for 168 yards, including his 19-yard TD pass to Malik Taylor in the third quarter. Bell also rushed for 78 yards on 20 carries. 

Davontae Harrington ran for a touchdown for Ferris State, which fell to Northwest Missouri State, 35-20, in last year's national semifinals.
