HUDSONVILLE, MICH. - The Ohio State versus Michigan football game is always at the end of the Big Ten Conference season for both schools.
It is an intense rivalry. In west Michigan there are many fans showing their support by proudly wearing Wolverine Maize and Blue.
But there are also Buckeye fans in west Michigan.
Hudsonville resident Sonny Gordon is one of the biggest. In the 1980s he played on the Ohio State football team that won and lost to Michigan.
Gordon says he is expecting a great game when the teams meet this year on November 26.
“Hopefully my heart will not be coming out of my chest,” he laughs. “It is going to be intense. When I played at Ohio State coach used to tell us you have two seasons. Your regular season and Michigan.”
Ohio State has won 13 of the previous 15 games against Michigan. Gordon says many of his neighbors and co-workers are Michigan fans.
“But people over here in west Michigan keep it light,” he says. “Of course they love their team, but at the same time they understand it is a football game. It is all in fun.”
