LOWELL, MICH - First place was on the line Friday night when Lowell hosted the Rangers of Forest Hills Central. Lowell comes into the game unbeaten at 6-0 and 3-0 in league play, while the Rangers are 5-1 and 3-1. They both feature offenses averaging around 30 points per game.
Brady Douma got Lowell off to a fast start by returning the opening kickoff 91 yards for a touchdown. Tanner Hallock and Jack Uecker combined for two touchdown passes as the Rangers dominated the rest of the quarter taking a 24 to 7 lead after one. Each team would get a score in the second quarter as Forest Hills Central lead 30-13 at the half.
Lowell's David Kruse connected with Austin Branagan to cut the deficit to 30-20 after three. The Rangers extended the lead to 37-20 early in the fourth on a Hallock keeper.
A touchdown run and pass from David Kruse made it 37-34 with just over 3:00 left in the game. Nate Stephens touchdown run with 2:00 left in the game gave Lowell a 41-37 lead.
The Rangers drove to the 10 yard line in the last minute, but Lowell's Defense came up with a fourth down stop to preserve the 41-37 victory.
