ROCKFORD, MICH. - Two of the top teams in West Michigan the last few years are hoping to get on the winning track after a tough start to the season.
The Rockford Rams' margin of error is razor thin, as they look to make the playoffs for a 22nd straight season. They had to forfeit their opener after an illness hit dozens of players and a good Lowell team beat them 21-10 last week.
Mona Shores is still looking to establish themselves this season with a completely new starting lineup from last year's undefeated regular season squad. They knocked off West Ottawa in the opener but fell to defending Division 4 state champion Zeeland West last week.
The two faced off Friday night and Rockford came out swinging.
A Conrad Hayes punt return touchdown put the Rams on the board first. Later, Alex Blick caught a touchdown pass from quarterback Jason Whittaker to put the Rams up 14-3. Nick Isley punched one in the end zone before the half to add to that lead , which made it 21-3.
Rockford would pull this one out for it's first victory of 2016 37-23 the final.
