Portland uses ground game to beat Calvin Christian

PORTLAND, MICH. - Portland used a strong running game to beat Grandville Calvin Christian on Friday night.  

The Squires scored first on a 31 yard field goal from Jake Bouma.  The Red Raiders controlled the rest of the first quarter.  Logan Lefke scored twice and Brock Gross added a third touchdown to give Portland a 21-3 lead after one.  Lefke's third scoring run gave Portland a 29-3 lead at the half.

Lefke's scored his fourth touchdown of the night on the first play of the third quarter.  Gabe Schrauben and Tim Thompson added touchdowns for Portland in the third to extend the lead to 51-3.

Bouma had two fourth quarter scoring passes in the fourth for Calvin Christian and Portland's Gavin Thelen added a 65 yard scamper for a score as Portland won 58-16.

Portland advances to play against Grand Rapids West Catholic at home next week.
