West Catholic @ Portland

PORTLAND, MICH. - Grand Rapids West Catholic is the three time defending state champion in Division 5.  The last team to beat the Falcons in the playoffs was the Portland Red Raiders during the 2012 state title game.  Friday night the two teams meet in Portland for a District title.

Portland took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on a two yard Logan Lefke touchdown run.  West Catholic would tie it up in the second quarter on a 35 yard scoring strike from Gaetano Villone to Sam Neville.

The score would stay tied at seven until the game's final seconds.  West Catholic's David Fox's 40 yard reverse pass to Neville and subsequent 15 yard facemask penalty on Portland gave the Falcons a chance at the winning field goal with four seconds left.  Liam Putz 31 yard kick sailed through the uprights giving West Catholic a 10-7 win.
